Wow! December was a crazy month. We spent the first half of the month getting ready for Christmas with multiple parties, shopping and a little decorating. We spent almost 2 weeks in Oregon celebrating with family and friends. And now we're home readjusting to our lives in Texas, not to mention warmer temperatures!
We flew to Oregon the morning of December 19th, taking our 5-year old son Josh and the 15-month twins Evan and Andrew, as well as 4 checked bags, 4 carry-ons and a stroller. The trip did not start well as we got to the airport only an hour before our flight and spent 20 minutes waiting at the sky cap waiting to check our bags. Fortunately there was a family line through security, but we still had to walk briskly to catch our plane. We made it with 15 minutes to spare, and then spent 4.5 hours on the plane. This was the first flight for the twins and they did remarkablywell considering how confined they felt. But Dan and I definitely felt the full length of the flight as we had to entertain the boys instead of reading a book or listening to music. :) Then we arrived in Oregon to discover that due to our lateness in checking our bags, they did not make it on the flight with us. After a promise from the Continental assistant that they would be flown down to Eugene later that night, we jumped in Tim & Michelle's borrowed Tahoe and headed south.
It was a rough first night. Josh was trying to recover from croup and all his medicine was in our checked bags. Bad move on our part. Then the bags were delayed again, not to arrive until Noon the next day. The twins protested being in a new house/room/bed and woke up several times during the night, as well as Josh who was struggling to breathe. Fortunately, things improved when our luggage arrived (courtesy of Dan and Paul driving to Portland VERY early Sunday morning). Once Josh started to recover and the twins adjusted, we had a great trip.
We spent the first 6 days in Eugene with Dan's parents and the next 6 days in Portland at my (Kim's) sister's house. The highlights of the trip were watching the twins and Josh with their cousins, a night away for Dan and I at the Oregon coast, taking Josh to the snow at Santiam Pass, snow in Portland much to Josh's joy, Dan and Josh goin to the air museum in McMinnville, seeing my grandparents and cousin Eric and his family, and of course lots of special time with family.
